Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has hinted that the highly acclaimed crime drama’s universe may expand further beyond the upcoming film. Speaking to the U.K.’s Times Radio, Knight confirmed that production on the spinoff movie wrapped ahead of the holidays and indicated a possible release in about a year. However, he reassured fans that this will not mark the end of the Peaky Blinders saga.

“It won’t be the end, let me put it that way,” Knight teased when asked about potential future projects. While he avoided confirming whether the continuation would take the form of another series or film, his comments suggest that the Shelby family’s story is far from over.

The BBC’s six-season drama concluded in April 2022, but the finale left the door open for further exploration of Tommy Shelby’s (Cillian Murphy) journey. Knight previously revealed that the film will delve into World War II-era England, continuing the gang’s evolution from the 1920s setting of the original series.

Filming for the Netflix movie began in late September in the U.K., with Murphy reprising his iconic role as the head of the Shelby family. Joining him are stars Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible, Dune), Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin, Saltburn), Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction), and Stephen Graham, who played Hayden Stagg in the series’ final season. This star-studded lineup highlights the scale and ambition of the upcoming project.

The Peaky Blinders franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, captivating a global audience with its gritty storytelling and complex characters. Knight’s confirmation of ongoing plans ensures the legacy of the Shelby family will endure, building anticipation for what’s to come. This story was originally reported by Deadline.
