Professional athletes are frequently targeted by criminals due to their high-profile status and perceived wealth. Mavericks star Luka Doncic is the latest name to be added to the list of players who have fallen victim to home burglaries. According to the Dallas Morning News, Doncic’s home was broken into and left in disarray on Friday night.

Reports indicate that jewelry valued at $30,000 was stolen from Luka Doncic’s home while he was away. Organized crime groups often target athletes' homes, viewing them as lucrative opportunities. Similar incidents have affected numerous athletes across the United States. The burglary occurred while Doncic was not at his Dallas residence.

“No one was home at the time, and thankfully Luka and his family are safe,” Doncic’s business manager, Lara Beth Seager, told the newspaper. “Luka has filed a police report, and an investigation is ongoing.”

According to police investigations, an unidentified individual entered Doncic’s master bedroom by breaking a window. The burglary reportedly took place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. when the Mavericks star was not at home. Other high-profile athletes, including NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, have also experienced similar incidents. NBA players Bobby Portis and Mike Conley Jr. have faced comparable situations in recent months.

The Mavericks are currently on a four-game road trip and are set to return to Dallas on New Year’s Day. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic is sidelined due to a strained left calf. The NBA All-Star, who distributed go-karts to his teammates on Christmas, sustained the injury that same day during a game against the Timberwolves.

ESPN has reported that the FBI has linked these burglaries to “transnational South American Theft Groups.” These groups are known to use advanced technologies and modern methods to carry out their crimes.
