LAHORE:

The Punjab Home Department has implemented comprehensive regulations to streamline prisoners' access to PCO (Public Call Office) facilities in jails across the province.

This initiative aims to improve inmate welfare by providing equitable communication opportunities with family and legal counsel.

Under the new policy, prisoners can make audio and video calls to their immediate family members and legal representatives from Monday to Saturday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

The facility is free of charge for underprivileged inmates and those under 18. However, individuals convicted of terrorism or anti-state activities are not eligible for this privilege.

According to a spokesperson for the Home Department, jail superintendents will issue weekly schedules for PCO usage, enabling prisoners to register up to five contact numbers.

Each inmate is allotted 60 to 80 minutes of call time per week, with the duration monitored and approved by the respective barrack in-charge. Calls can only be initiated after verification by the jail superintendent on the same day.
