OKARA:

Police claimed to have re-arrested a dangerous dacoit who had escaped from the prisoner ward of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) two days ago.

The fugitive, Sajid, was planning to flee to another province.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, District Police Officer (DPO) Rashid Hidayat provided details of the case. He revealed that Sajid, injured during a police encounter in the Ravi police precinct, was under treatment in the hospital's prisoner ward when he escaped during the night.

Pretending to go to the washroom, Sajid used crutches to evade police personnel and fled the facility.

Upon learning of the escape, DPO Hidayat immediately arrived at the scene and ordered the arrest of the negligent police officers, Amjad and Usman, who were subsequently booked and taken into custody.

To ensure Sajid's re-arrest, DPO Hidayat formed a team led by DSP CIA Khawaja Abid Saghir and DSP Saddar. The team was tasked with capturing the fugitive within 48 hours.

Using modern tracking technology, the special team traced Sajid to a location where he was planning his escape to another province. DSP Khawaja Abid Saghir and his team apprehended the suspect before he could carry out his plan.

DPO Rashid Hidayat commended the CIA team and police personnel for their prompt and efficient action, announcing certificates of appreciation and cash rewards for their efforts.

He also emphasised that Sajid, wanted in several serious criminal cases, would face legal action and be punished according to the law.
