West Indies announce Test squad for Pakistan tour in Jan
Cricket West Indies (CWI) revealed a 15-member squad on Monday for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, set to take place from January 17 to 29, 2025, at Multan Cricket Stadium.
This series marks the West Indies’ first Test visit to Pakistan in 18 years, and it also forms the final part of the two-year World Test Championship cycle. The squad sees the return of left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who was unavailable for the team's recent drawn series against Bangladesh.
Emerging left-handed batter Amir Jangoo has earned his maiden Test call-up following his match-winning century on ODI debut against Bangladesh earlier this month.
The CWI also confirmed that both Tests will be held in Multan, following reports that Karachi would no longer host the opening match due to ongoing renovations at the National Stadium in preparation for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
West Indies head coach Andre Coley described the series as a valuable opportunity for his team to continue their development in the format.
“For the Test series against Pakistan in January 2025, the focus is on building on what we have done well and transforming the learnings from 2024 into tangible results,” Coley said.
He added that Motie’s return would strengthen the spin attack, and Jangoo’s selection was due to his consistency in regional cricket and his strong performance against spin bowling.
The West Indies will begin their tour with a two-day practice match against Pakistan Shaheens in Rawalpindi on January 10 and 11. The team is expected to arrive in Islamabad on January 6 before travelling to Multan for the series.
