SZA’s highly anticipated SOS Deluxe: Lana hit streaming platforms on December 20, 2024, introducing 15 new tracks to fans. Among them, the song “Scorsese Baby Daddy” has captured attention, not only for its catchy rhythm but also for an unexpected endorsement from legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese himself.

The track, which humorously refers to Scorsese as the “king of drama,” features introspective lyrics such as: “Addicted to the drama / Scorsese baby daddy / Right there, just a little further down / Got a brand new reason to spiral out.”

The lyrics sparked a connection with Scorsese’s daughter, Francesca, who showcased her father’s subtle approval on Instagram. Francesca posted a photo of the filmmaker accompanied by the track and the caption, “SZA, Queen sh*t".

SZA, thrilled by the recognition, shared her reaction on social media. “The fact that this isn’t AI, and it is actually Martin Scorsese 😭,” she wrote, expressing her excitement and gratitude for the unexpected interaction.

Although the song doesn’t reference any specific Scorsese films, it aligns with his reputation for exploring complex, drama-filled narratives. Fans speculate that this playful name-drop could open doors for a deeper collaboration, especially as SZA’s music increasingly references cinematic storytelling.

This acknowledgment from Scorsese is not the first time SZA’s work has crossed into Hollywood territory. Her recent music video for “Drive” featured actor Ben Stiller, a collaboration that stemmed from a lighthearted online exchange. Fans are now hoping for a potential visual interpretation of “Scorsese Baby Daddy” that might include the iconic director himself.
