During this week’s Saturday Night Live, “Weekend Update” host Colin Jost found himself in an awkward spot as he read outrageous jokes about his wife, Scarlett Johansson, written by co-host Michael Che. The bit was part of their ongoing “joke swap” tradition, where each host delivers unvetted jokes prepared by the other.

Jost began by apologizing in advance, acknowledging that Johansson, who appeared in the show’s cold open earlier in the night, was watching backstage. As a graphic of Johansson appeared on-screen, Jost nervously dedicated the first joke to his “boo.” The segment demonstrated the comedic risks Jost was willing to take, knowing the jokes would play out in real-time before a live audience.

Later, Jost delivered a risqué joke involving Costco’s discontinued roast beef sandwich, saying, “I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid,” before lowering his head in embarrassment. Johansson, watching the segment, appeared to mouth, “Oh my god.”

Jost ended the bit with another shocking line, claiming, “You know I don’t go down. Shiz. That’s gay as hell.” While Jost laughed nervously, Johansson’s reactions backstage added to the humor, highlighting the couple’s dynamic amid the live broadcast.

The segment exemplifies the comedic risks and unpredictability of live television, a hallmark of SNL’s enduring appeal. The joke swap tradition, known for its outrageous humor, continues to captivate audiences, with this week’s installment standing out for its blend of personal stakes and lighthearted fun.
