Boxing legend Mike Tyson is facing a $1.59 million lawsuit filed in the UK by Medier, a Cyprus-based casino and betting firm, for alleged breach of contract. Tyson and his company, Tyrannic, reportedly terminated a promotional deal with Medier in March 2024, coinciding with the announcement of his Netflix-themed fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

The lawsuit claims that Tyson unlawfully ended the agreement to pursue the Netflix-sponsored bout, headlining MVP’s event at Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. The highly publicized fight, which streamed to over 60 million households, saw the 58-year-old Tyson lose to Jake Paul in a unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73).

Medier alleges that Tyson’s termination of the promotion deal was directly linked to his involvement in the Netflix boxing event. Court documents reveal claims that the former heavyweight champion prioritized the lucrative Netflix project over his prior commitments.

This legal battle highlights the ongoing ripple effects of the high-profile Netflix event. Despite the lawsuit, Tyson appears unfazed, reportedly preparing to return to Netflix in 2025 with a three-part documentary chronicling his life and career. Meanwhile, Jake Paul, now 11-1 with 7 KOs, has hinted at future fights against high-profile opponents, including IBF, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.

The Netflix-themed event, though criticized for its entertainment value, has sparked discussions within the boxing world. Fans have humorously reacted online, creating memes about Paul’s matchups with aging celebrities. However, Paul remains undeterred, teasing major announcements for 2025.

This lawsuit underscores the complexities of blending traditional sports and entertainment, where contracts and commitments can collide with high-profile opportunities. While Tyson faces legal battles, Jake Paul continues to redefine the boxing landscape, keeping fans curious about what’s next.
