Four arrested in female dentist's murder case

Death of Dr Mehrunnisa was staged as 'suicide'.

Abbottabad police have said significant progress has been made in the murder case of 27-year-old lady doctor Mehrun Nisa.

According to sources, the victim's husband, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law have all been arrested. The suspects were presented before a local court, where the judge cancelled their bail applications and approved a two-day physical remand, handing them over to Mirpur police.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of November 24, 2024, when the death of Dr Mehrun Nisa, a dentist at Ayub Medical Complex, was staged as a suicide. However, investigations revealed that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws.

An FIR was filed at Mirpur police station on the complaint of the victim's father. He alleged that his daughter was killed by her husband and his family to seize her 100 tolas of gold jewellery and property worth 160 million rupees in Islamabad's G-13.

Meanwhile, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) dealers in Hazara division are blatantly disregarding the government's official price list, charging consumers significantly higher rates, and exacerbating the financial strain on inflation-hit citizens.

Despite the government-imposed rate of Rs254 per kilogramme, dealers are selling LPG for up to Rs330 per kilogramme, leaving residents frustrated and calling for action.

Local citizens have voiced their concerns, urging the district administration to take immediate action against the overpricing practices of LPG dealers and ensure strict enforcement of the government's approved rates.

Many residents are demanding that LPG dealers be subjected to the same regulatory oversight and price control measures applied to street vendors, shopkeepers, and hotel owners.

In addition to overcharging, there are reports that some LPG dealers are also reducing the weight of gas cylinders, further exploiting consumers. The lack of regular inspections and oversight by the relevant authorities has allowed dealers to continue their profiteering activities without consequence.

Citizens are calling on local authorities to launch urgent inspections and take swift action to curb these practices, ensuring that LPG is sold at the official, government-regulated price.

With the ongoing inflation affecting the daily lives of many, residents are hoping that the district administration will take steps to provide much-needed relief by controlling LPG prices effectively.
