Murree, Talagang given the status of full-fledged districts

The Punjab government on Thursday notified new administrative revamp of the province, which would now comprise 10 divisions, 41 districts and 216 tehsils, according to a gazette announcement made by Governor Sardar Saleem Haider.

A notification issued by the provincial revenue department, the former Gujarat division – which was created by the chief minister Parvez Elahi but abolished by then chief minister Shehbaz Shairf, had been restored. Similarly, Murree and Talagang had been given the status of full-fledged districts.

The new divisions include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur. After the revamping of the divisions, districts and tehsils, it was decided that the electoral constituencies in Punjab would be revamped.
