The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has cleared former president Dr. Arif Alvi, stating that no cases have been registered against him.
A two-member constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC), headed by Justice K.K. Agha, heard a petition seeking details of the cases against Dr. Arif Alvi.
The Assistant Attorney General submitted a report stating that no cases had been filed against the former president in the FIA.
The Assistant Advocate General requested more time to provide details of cases registered against the former president in the province.
The court inquired why it was taking so long to obtain the details of the cases. The government lawyer explained that details needed to be collected from various departments.
Justice Adnan ul Kareem Memon remarked that if the IG Sindh is not responsible for providing the details of the cases, then who is? Is the FIR being concealed? The government lawyer stated that the FIR is registered in Mianwali and the protective bail was obtained here.
Justice Adnan ul Kareem Memon further noted that the petitioner has concerns that cases might be registered here as well. Justice K.K. Agha remarked that this was the reason for requesting the record.
The court extended the stay order on the former president’s arrest and granted more time to provide the details of the cases in the province, deferring the hearing until January 13. The court has prohibited the arrest of the former president in any new case.
Last week the Constitutional Bench of the SHC stopped authorities from arresting former President Arif Alvi.
The SHC bench also issued notices to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), police, and other relevant agencies regarding the details of the cases filed against former President Arif Alvi.
The court heard petitions related to the details of the cases filed against Alvi. The court has restrained any action against the former president, stating that no steps should be taken against him without judicial approval. If there are any secret cases against him, the matter should be brought before the court.
The petitioner's lawyer stated that they had obtained bail in three cases, but were unaware of any further cases. The court issued notices to the FIA, police, and other agencies. The court instructed that all details of the cases and inquiries be provided.
Imran Khan summons PTI's negotiation committee to Adiala Jail
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has summoned all seven members of his negotiating committee to meet him at Adiala Jail.
The committee includes key figures such as Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Asad Qaiser, Hamid Khan, Advocate Salman Akram Raja, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, and Hamid Raza Khan.
PTI’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, submitted a formal request to Adiala Jail authorities for the meeting.
The committee members are expected to meet Imran Khan later today, in addition to his family members.
The move comes amid increasing political tensions in Pakistan, with Imran Khan issuing an ultimatum to the government, demanding the fulfilment of his two major demands by Sunday. Failing this, Imran Khan has threatened to initiate a civil disobedience movement.
Following a visit to the jail yesterday, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, revealed that the former prime minister has repeated his call for judicial inquiries into the events of May 9 and November 26, as well as the immediate release of innocent PTI workers detained during protests.
