“I’ve spoken to him, and I told him he better kill it,” Wayne said during the interview. He admitted that the decision still stings, attributing it to “politics” beyond his control. Reflecting on his career, Wayne emphasized his desire to reach a point where his talent is “undeniable,” ensuring he becomes a clear choice for such opportunities in the future.

Wayne’s disappointment wasn’t new. Earlier this year, he had openly expressed his hopes of headlining the halftime show, telling YG on the 4Hunnid podcast, “I’m working hard to make it very hard for them to overlook me.” When the news broke in September that Lamar had been chosen, Wayne shared an emotional Instagram post, describing the letdown as deeply painful. He credited his fans for offering support, saying, “Your words turned into arms and held me up when I tried to fall back.”

Despite the setback, Wayne harbors no resentment toward Lamar. Addressing lyrics in Lamar’s song “wacced out murals,” which reference Wayne’s influence, he interpreted them as a sign of respect and mutual understanding. “He didn’t let me down. He saw how much it meant to me,” Wayne explained.

While Wayne will be out of the country during the performance, he remains optimistic about Lamar’s success. “He better kill it,” Wayne added, reaffirming his support for his fellow rap legend.
