Fans believe Justin Bieber may have sent Selena Gomez a "hidden message" after her engagement to Benny Blanco.
On Monday, shortly after Gomez, his on-again, off-again ex of eight years, announced her engagement, the "Baby" singer shared an Instagram post. The image featured a close-up of his wife, Hailey Bieber, kissing him on the side of his face during their Costa Rica getaway.
However, what caught fans' attention wasn't the picture but the song accompanying the post.
The 30-year-old attached Lizzy McAlpine’s song “All My Ghosts,” which reflects on cherished memories with a former partner that linger.
Certain lines from the track stood out to fans. “I can see it now, the wedding of the year / I can see it now, he stands up there and wipes his tears,” the lyrics read. “I can see it now, when all my ghosts disappear / I can see it crystal clear.”
The song also includes lines like, “Oh, all my ghosts are with me / I know you feel them too.”
Fans speculated that Bieber may have been subtly addressing Gomez with the song choice.
One fan commented directly under the post, “Guys listen to that song well and you will know Justin is trying to give sel a message.”
Another joked, “Of course he was gonna post something now 💀.”
“Y’all pls why did Justin Bieber post a pic of him and his wife with all my ghosts by Lizzy mcalpine a few days after Selena got engaged,” a third person tweeted. “you can’t make this up.”
A seemingly confused user added, “I don’t know if Justin is for real or joking at this point.”
This isn’t the first time fans have linked a song to Bieber and Gomez’s past relationship following their breakup.
When he released his 2021 single “Ghost,” which delves into the pain of losing a loved one, fans speculated that it was inspired by the Rare Beauty founder.
Bieber explained the song’s meaning in a Dolby commercial, saying, “My objective with making the song was to make people song that there is hope, and the trauma and the hurt that you feel isn’t gonna last forever.”
“It takes time to heal. There will be a moment when that pain doesn’t hurt so bad. Know that that feeling will subside.”
