Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett bring intrigue and passion to the big screen in Black Bag, a new spy thriller from director Steven Soderbergh.
The film’s first trailer, released Tuesday, December 17, introduces "legendary intelligence agents" George and Kathryn Woodhouse, whose marriage is tested by suspicion and betrayal. The official synopsis teases: "When she is suspected of betraying the nation, George faces the ultimate test: loyalty to his marriage or his country."
In the gripping preview, Fassbender’s George declares his devotion to Kathryn, played by Blanchett, promising, "I would do anything for you." Kathryn’s provocative response — "Would you kill for me, George?" — sets the tone for the film’s high-stakes drama.
Blanchett’s Kathryn admits in the trailer, "My devotion to my marriage is my professional weakness," hinting at the complex intersection of personal and professional lives in the story.
Written by Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, Black Bag features a star-studded cast, including Pierce Brosnan, Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, and Naomie Harris.
This is one of two upcoming Soderbergh-Koepp collaborations. The duo also teamed up for Presence, a supernatural thriller about a family confronting an ominous force in their suburban home. Starring Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, and Julia Fox, Presence hits theaters on January 24.
Black Bag arrives in theaters March 14, promising a twist-filled tale of espionage, loyalty, and romance.
