MULTAN:

The city police foiled a bid to supply a stock of fireworks worth Rs1.2 million from Faisalabad to Multan and arrested three dealers on Tuesday.

CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar said at a news conference that Multan police had dismantled all the fireworks factories in the city, leaving no option for retailers except to buy the prohibited products from other cities.

He said the New Multan police, on a tip off, spotted a pick-up truck and upon checking, a big stock of firework products worth Rs1.2 million was seized. The fireworks were being transported for supply to shopkeepers in Multan.

The official said the police had intensified operations against bootleggers and fireworks dealers to prevent any mishap during the preparations for New Year.

Terming fireworks a big threat to lives, Dogar said the police had first dismantled factories in Multan and had planned in advance to prevent entry into the city of the banned products.

New Multan SHO Shafiq Ahmad and his team seized the fireworks that were on way to various parts of the city for supply to retailers.

The police arrested Ehsan Khan and Omar Hayat, residents of Jaranwala, and Ali Raza of Shah Kot after seizing the fireworks.

The CPO appealed to people to inform the police if they come across any dubious activity.
