PESHAWAR:

The Grand Jirga held for the restoration of peace in Kurram has not concluded, stated the K-P CM's Adviser on Information Barrister Saif.

He stated that the jirga was postponed due to the absence of some members and will resume today, according to Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud. Saif added both warring factions needed an additional day to iron out their differences.

The grand jirga, which had been convening for the last nine days, has not finalised a decision.

Local media reports on Monday indicated that the jirga ended without a conclusion.

Barrister Saif clarified that the break was requested by the parties involved for consultations regarding the dismantling of bunkers and the surrender of weapons. He emphasised that following the provincial cabinet's decision, the collection of weapons and dismantling of bunkers are crucial.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud informed a local journalist that the jirga had been postponed due to the absence of some members and will be resumed on Tuesday (today).

He mentioned that the roads are closed due to security concerns. Former Member MNA from Parachinar, Sajid Hussain Turi, stated that tribal elders are in Islamabad for consultations and will return to Kohat after reaching a decision.
