In early 2024, it was revealed that director Sam Mendes will produce four films about the legendary Beatles, in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Mendes's Neal Street Productions. Ringo Starr took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that the films have the full support of himself and the families of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison.
This marks the first time that Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles have allowed a scripted film series to delve into their expansive life stories and music rights—making it a significant project in the world of music cinema. Here’s what we know so far.
What Are The Beatles Movies About?
While details remain sparse, Mendes has teased that the films will be more about the style than substance, as the band’s story is already widely covered in various movies and documentaries. The director explained that the films will be interwoven, with each movie focusing on one of the band members’ perspectives. Mendes is set to direct all four films, and will produce alongside Pippa Harris and Julie Pastor. However, they’re still looking for screenwriters to bring the script to life.
Who Is In The Cast For The Four Movies?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ringo Starr confirmed that Irish actor Barry Keoghan has been cast to portray his younger self. When asked about Keoghan potentially being a good fit, Starr remarked, “Well, I think he’s great, and I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons.” He also added with humor, “I hope he doesn’t take ‘too many lessons’ so he can find his personal groove.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that director Ridley Scott hinted Paul Mescal could play Paul McCartney. At a Directors Guild of America event on December 10, Scott mentioned, “Yes. Well, maybe. Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go,” referring to Mescal's potential role in the Beatles series.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mescal expressed excitement about the idea, calling it “a dream come true,” though he didn’t confirm his involvement in the project.
Deadline also reported on December 12 that Joseph Quinn, known for his role in Stranger Things, is likely set to play George Harrison. Quinn was spotted with a guitar on the set of the new Fantastic Four film, which seems to suggest his role in the upcoming Beatles series.
