A convicted terrorist is suing a pub, claiming he was deeply offended by its sign displayed outside the establishment.
Khalid Baqa, who previously served four years in prison for creating Jihadi propaganda, is demanding over £1,000 from the Saracen's Head Inn in Chesham, Buckinghamshire.
Baqa criticised the sign, calling it a racist "depiction of a bearded Arab/Turk" and accusing it of "inciting violence."
He is seeking £1,850 from the landlord and has announced plans to target more than 30 other pubs with the same name if his lawsuit succeeds.
The landlord of the pub, however, has dismissed the lawsuit, calling it a "complete joke."
Speaking to *The Sun*, Robbie Hayes stated, "This has been called The Saracen's Head for 500 years."
Hayes added, "He's just chancing his hand. Of course, it worries me - you never know with people like this."
The 52-year-old landlord also defended his pubgoers, saying they are not racist and that the pub's name and sign are "simply historic" rather than offensive.
Baqa filed a "claim of money" form, a legal application to request payment he believes he is owed, which was later referred to a small claims court.
In his application, Baqa claimed that the pub sign, depicting a brown-skinned man of Arab or Turkish descent, "instilled worry and fear in me since it was clearly xenophobic, racist and inciting violence to certain people."
He also claimed to have contacted the pub four times and visited in person, but staff at the Saracen's Head Inn stated they have no record of his attempts.
In 2018, Baqa was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to five counts of disseminating terrorist materials.
Speaking to *The Sun*, Baqa said he has always been offended by pub names like the one in Buckinghamshire.
The term "Saracen" was historically used until the 5th century to describe Arabs and later came to refer to Muslims.
