An Argentinian waiter, Braian Paiz, has admitted to using cocaine with former One Direction star Liam Payne just two days before the singer’s tragic death but denies allegations of being his drug dealer.

In an interview with TMZ, Paiz, 24, said he met the 31-year-old singer at a restaurant where he worked and bonded over their shared love of drawing. The pair partied together for two nights before Payne fell to his death from the third-floor balcony of a Buenos Aires hotel.

“They say I’m the dealer, that I carried drugs, that I sold them,” Paiz said, denying the accusations. He described seeing drugs scattered throughout Payne’s hotel room, including in a soap box and on tin foil, but claimed they only consumed cocaine and whiskey together.

Paiz also asserted that he never took money or items of value from Payne, rejecting even a Rolex watch the star offered as payment. Instead, Paiz accepted a drawing Payne made of his facial features, saying, “He draws. I draw. I’m studying to do it so I had drawings.”

Argentinian authorities have named Paiz as one of three suspects in the investigation into Payne’s death. The charges include “abandonment of a person followed by death” and “supply and facilitation of narcotics.” Other suspects include a hotel employee and an alleged drug supplier.
