Gayle King celebrates 70th birthday with surprise party hosted by Oprah Winfrey

Gayle King received an unforgettable 70th birthday surprise on Saturday, organized by her best friend, Oprah Winfrey. King, whose milestone birthday is later this month, thought she was attending a holiday gathering for one of Winfrey’s companies but walked into a surprise party at New York City’s Ci Siamo restaurant.

Footage shared on Instagram captured King’s astonished reaction as she entered the venue to cheers from her friends and family. Among the notable guests were Katy Perry, Stephen Colbert, Angela Bassett, Jeff Bezos, Brooke Shields, and Andy Cohen.

In a speech, Winfrey reflected on their nearly 50 years of friendship, saying, “In 50 years, we have been in sync, in each other’s corner, supportive of one another.” She praised King for her unwavering support and the joy she brings to others, calling her a source of light in the world.

The celebration featured a four-tiered cake with sparklers, and DJ Suss One provided entertainment as the evening’s emcee. During the event, King expressed her gratitude to the guests, saying, “I can’t believe that you guys came for me… I’m so grateful. Thank you so, so much.”
