Idris Elba has expressed interest in bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to the big screen in a live-action adaptation alongside Keanu Reeves.
During an interview with Screen Rant while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Elba shared his enthusiasm for the idea, saying, “If any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077]. His character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let’s speak that into existence.”
Elba portrayed Solomon Reed in the critically acclaimed expansion Phantom Liberty, while Reeves played the fan-favorite Johnny Silverhand in the base game. While a live-action adaptation has not been confirmed, the prospect of a collaboration between the two stars has sparked excitement among fans.
Cyberpunk 2077, despite its rocky launch in 2020, has seen a resurgence in popularity following numerous updates and the release of Phantom Liberty. The expansion, praised as one of the best ever for a video game, showcased Elba’s character in a pivotal role and reignited interest in the franchise.
However, the dynamics of a potential movie remain uncertain. Johnny Silverhand exists as a digital entity within the protagonist’s mind, making direct interactions between Silverhand and Reed unlikely. CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, is currently developing a new Cyberpunk game and a Netflix anime following the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Fans are eager to see how the franchise evolves, whether through another game, the upcoming anime, or a possible live-action movie. While CD Projekt Red focuses on The Witcher 4 and other projects, Elba’s vision for a Cyberpunk 2077 movie remains a tantalizing possibility.
