New MV fitness certificate soon
Sindh Department of Transport and Mass Transit has announced the introduction of new Motor Vehicle Fitness Certificates and new SOPs for MVIs.
The new Motor Vehicle Fitness Certificates will include modern security measures including barcodes.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the new measures are designed to increase the fitness of vehicles. The new measures are aimed at ensuring road safety, reducing environmental pollution, preventing the issuance of fake certificates, and increasing government revenue.
He maintained that detailed SOPs have been issued for Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) across Sindh. Instructions need to be strictly followed to maintain uniformity and accountability in the issuance of certificates. The Transport Department will inform the public about the cut-off date for the new certificates, after which all the old fitness certificates will be declared rejected. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that all old records stored in MVI wings across Sindh will be confiscated. A central database of fitness certificates will be maintained using an Android application. Help will be sought from law enforcement agencies including traffic police and district SSPs to ensure compliance with the new system.
Help will also be sought from highway and motorway police. Regular snap checking will be done by designated officers and disciplinary action will be taken against inspectors issuing fake certificates.
