In a major initiative to combat mobile phone theft, the Abbottabad police, in collaboration with COMSATS University, launched a new app, E-Device-CR, on Friday. The app is designed to help track lost or stolen mobile phones by maintaining a centralised record of device information.
The app allows users and mobile phone dealers to register the IMEI numbers of devices during buying and selling transactions. This data is automatically stored at the police headquarters, enabling quick action in the event of theft or loss.
Abbottabad District Police Officer (DPO), Umar Tufail, officially inaugurated the app at a launch ceremony at COMSATS University, which coincided with the university's Science Expo 2024. During the event, the app's developers briefed participants on its features and functionality.
Speaking at the ceremony, DPO Umar Tufail emphasised the app's potential to significantly reduce mobile phone thefts, urging both citizens and dealers to actively use the platform to facilitate the swift recovery of stolen devices.
DPO Tufail presented certificates of appreciation to the student developers.
