xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, has rolled out significant upgrades to its Grok chatbot model and introduced a new feature on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
On Friday evening, xAI announced the release of Grok 2, an enhanced version of its flagship AI model. The new Grok 2 promises to be "three times faster" than its predecessor, with improvements in accuracy, instruction-following capabilities, and multi-lingual support.

The upgraded chatbot will be accessible to all X users, but free users will be limited to 10 queries every two hours. Meanwhile, subscribers to X’s Premium and Premium+ plans will have access to higher usage limits.
In addition to the Grok model, xAI introduced a new “Grok button” on X, which is designed to help users access relevant context, stay informed on real-time events, and engage more deeply with trending topics.
The button aims to enhance the user experience on the platform by offering additional insights and expanding interaction with ongoing discussions.
xAI also revealed updates to its enterprise API. The new Grok models come with better efficiency and multilingual capabilities, which have resulted in a significant drop in pricing.
Previously, the cost for input tokens was $5 per million, while output tokens were priced at $15 per million. With the new updates, the pricing has been reduced to $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
In the near future, xAI plans to integrate its image generation model, Aurora, into the API. Aurora, which was launched earlier this month within the Grok chatbot experience on X, is known for its unfiltered image-generation capabilities.
These updates from xAI come amidst a growing legal battle with OpenAI but mark a continued push for innovation and user engagement on X.
