A Civil Hospital official who blew whistle on a multimillion-rupee cancer medicine scam was critically injured in a targeted gun attack near Memon Cooperative Housing Society, Malir Cantt, on Wednesday night.
As per details, two unidentified armed suspects riding a motorcycle opened fire on the car of 35-year-old Ziyad Ahmed Khan, IT in-charge of Civil Hospital, on Jinnah Avenue and fled. Ziyad Khan, son of Anis Ahmed Khan, was seriously wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors referred him to a private hospital on Stadium Road.
According to Agha Rasheed, SHO of Malir Cantt police station, Ziyad Khan left the hospital with his friend Dr Sanjay in his car at around 6.15pm for home situated in Scheme 33.
He dropped his friend at Tank Chowk and proceeded to his destination. As he drove in front of Memon Cooperative Society on Jinnah Avenue at around 8.15pm, two unidentified armed suspects on a motorcycle sprayed his car with bullets. The assailants fired eight bullets, three of which hit Ziyad in the chest, stomach, and arm.
Ziyad Khan was rushed to hospital before a police team reached. The Crime Scene Unit also reached and collected vital forensic evidence form the crime scene. Police registered a case against unknown assailants on the complaint of the victim's brother. Police said that their investigation is ongoing and it would be too early to speculate on the possible motives.
