Defence Minister Khawaja Asif made a strong statement on Wednesday, claiming that former director general of the ISI Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed and PTI founder Imran Khan were working together for over five years.
Talking to journalists at the Parliament House, he emphasised that this partnership continued even after the events of May 9, 2023. However, he would not say whether or not Imran Khan could face a military trial following the indictment of Gen Faiz by a FGCM.
Asif said that Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan were partners for the past five to six years. "Gen Faiz played the central role in bringing the PTI to power [in 2018]. Their partnership went before 2018 and continued on May 9 [2023] and even after May 9," the minister told reporters.
"If anyone denies this, then the available evidence will prove their six-year partnership," he continued. "How Imran was brought to power, how the RTS [2018 election 'RTS'] crashed, how PTI was assisted in the elections, how the opponents were imprisoned, is clear."
