PESHAWAR:

The Kurram Grand Jirga has, once again, decided to indefinitely extend the ceasefire between warring tribes in the troubled district. The move hopes to ensure lasting and sustainable peace in the area.

Under the special directives of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, a joint session of the Grand Jirga and both sides of the Kurram district was held under the chairmanship of the Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah on Friday.

The members of the Grand Jirga held individual and collective sittings with both opposing sides.

After hours-long deliberations, they agreed to a ceasefire for an indefinite period, while agreeing that bunkers would remain empty until the final decision of the grand jirga.

Both sides agreed that war is not the solution to a decades-long problem.
