Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, emerged as one of 2024's highest-grossing films, earning billions globally since its July release. While fans eagerly await news of the franchise's future, Reynolds recently opened up about the beloved character and the challenges of balancing career and family life.

In an Actors on Actors conversation with Andrew Garfield for Variety, Reynolds candidly shared his thoughts on the character’s journey and what lies ahead. “I don’t know what the future of Deadpool will be, but I do know that we made the movie to be a complete experience instead of a commercial for another one,” said the 48-year-old star.

Reynolds emphasized that Deadpool thrives on “scarcity and surprise,” highlighting the six-year gap since the last installment. He admitted that the intense filming schedules take a toll on his family life. “I have four kids, and I don’t ever want to be an absentee. I kind of die inside when I see their faces and they do a sports thing or something, and I missed it,” he shared.

Reflecting on his career, Reynolds discussed the importance of balancing critical acclaim with audience appeal. He noted that while some of his earlier nuanced roles were well-received by critics, they lacked mainstream success. The Green Lantern actor explained his desire to bridge the gap, ensuring his projects resonate with both audiences and critics.

Although Reynolds remains unsure about when he’ll next don Deadpool’s iconic suit, fans can be assured that his focus remains on creating meaningful cinematic experiences.
