Senator Faisal Vawda has claimed that PTI's December 14 civil disobedience call was a calculated move tied to the trial of Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, asserting that the accountability process will not stop at the former spymaster but could extend to Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and others.
The former federal minister had previously predicted that PTI's call for civil disobedience was a ploy to turn up the heat on the government and throw a wrench in Faiz's indictment process.
Speaking on an Express News show on Tuesday, Vawda claimed PTI's call for civil disobedience was no coincidence, adding that it was tied directly to Faiz Hameed's ongoing trial.
He said it is impossible for one person to face trial while his accomplices are let off the hook, referring to a sense of foreboding within the former ruling party.
He questioned how those who used Faiz Hameed can remain exempt now that the military has set a precedent by prosecuting one of its own. He predicted Faiz Hameed's testimony would likely implicate Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in actions that could justify military court trials.
Referring to Faiz Hameed's indictment after months of investigation, Vawda suggested that if the PTI founder were to be taken into military custody, it would not be surprising.
The senator further said that the PTI was a spent force and added that no one in Pakistan was now above the law. "There's a new system of merit in place and no powerful person can escape accountability."
"The party's balloon has deflated. Pakistan now operates under a system where no powerful individual can escape accountability." "Imran Khan's allies, including Bushra Bibi, Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Saeed, and Hammad Azhar, won't be spared either," he said, adding that Bushra was "hell-bent on harming Imran Khan".
