Pakistan is set to host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, but Indian media has reported that Pakistan has requested written assurances from the ICC regarding the hybrid model for the future tournament, according to Express News.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to make a final decision on Wednesday regarding the hosting and match arrangements.
According to Indian media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has demanded a written guarantee from the ICC after discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the hybrid model for future ICC events.
The hybrid model, which has already been agreed upon by Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, will see India's matches being played in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will take place in Pakistan.
If India advances to the semi-finals or final, these matches will also be held in Dubai. Sources within the ICC have indicated that due to the Indian government’s policy, the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan. Despite this, PCB has agreed to the hybrid model for the tournament.
Pakistan's demand for a written assurance from the ICC stems from concerns over future international tournaments under this model, with the PCB seeking confirmation before finalising any agreements.
Meanwhile, the Emirates Cricket Board is closely monitoring the ICC’s decision and has already confirmed that they will host India's matches. The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025.
