After years of uncertainty, especially following his defamation trial against Amber Heard, Disney is reportedly working on two versions of the Pirates 6 script. One of these versions includes Jack Sparrow, with the possibility of Depp reprising the role—provided the actor and Disney can reconcile. However, no final decision has been made, and the studio is also considering a backup script that moves forward without Sparrow.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who remains optimistic about Depp’s involvement, has revealed that he has discussed the possibility with Depp and would love to see him return to the franchise.

If Depp agrees to reprise the role, it would mark his first major Hollywood project in several years, following smaller-scale films like Minamata and Jeanne du Barry. However, if Depp and Disney do not reach an agreement, Disney will proceed with an alternate script, written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot, which introduces new characters. Austin Butler is rumored to be in talks to take the lead in this version.

Whether Depp returns or not, Disney is focused on revitalizing the Pirates franchise, which has grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide, by continuing its legacy while exploring new narratives. The future of Captain Jack Sparrow remains uncertain, but the saga is set to continue.
