Earthquake hits Lahore, other Punjab cities

Tremors felt in Lahore, Jhelum, and Khamalia, prompting evacuation of buildings.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 struck Lahore and various cities of Punjab, including Lahore, Jhelum, Kamalia, and Gujrat, causing widespread panic as residents rushed out of their homes and buildings.

The tremors were also reported in cities including Nankana Sahib, Jalalpur Bhattian, Wazirabad, Shahkot, Bhalwal.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed that the earthquake’s epicentre was located near Kharian, with a depth of 15 kilometers.

Following the tremors, people came out of their houses in fear by reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.

However, no casualties or property damage have been reported following the tremors.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed receiving initial reports from all districts in Punjab. The authority assured the public that no significant damage had been reported.

The PDMA’s Director-General stated that machinery and emergency personnel were on alert to handle any aftershocks. The provincial control room and district emergency operation centres are operational 24/7.

In a statement, the PDMA urged citizens to report any damage or emergencies to their helpline at 1129.
