Suspect discloses money trail for airport suicide attack

A suspected terrorist taken into custody by the counterterrorism police in connection with the October 7 suicide bombing targeting Chinese engineers outside the Karachi airport disclosed the process of financing the terrorist attack.

The FIR submitted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) lists details of financing and planning of the attack that had left two Chinese engineers dead. The arrested suspect named Javed has confessed to have facilitated the suicide bombing. He also told investigators that the attack was masterminded and funded by Bashir Baloch and Abdul Rehman of the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) terrorist group and executed by Shah Fahad, the suicide bomber, with the help of Javed.

The FIR further states that the car used in the suicide attack was purchased from Al-Haram Automobiles in Karachi for Rs7.1 million, while the payment was made through a commercial bank branch in Hub Chowki. Later the car was rigged with explosives in preparation for the attack.

Key commanders of BLA's Majeed Brigade, including Bashir Baloch, alias Bashir Zaib, and Abdul Rehman, alias Rehman Gul, and abettors have been named in the FIR. Bilal, the bank employee who executed the money transfer, and Saeed Ali, from whose account the money was transferred, have also been named.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of Moosa Kaleem, the SHO of Airport police station under charges of terrorism, terror financing, explosives, murder, etc.
