KARACHI:

Registration of fishmongers has commenced. The decision to register fishmongers was made in a recent meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, attended by Deputy Commissioner East Shahzad Fazal Abbasi, Chairman Market Committee Ali Zaman Jokhio, and officers from the Bureau of Supply.

The meeting emphasised the importance the registration of fishmongers in controlling prices and the need for their inclusion in price control efforts. To make these efforts effective, the commissioner directed the market committee to prioritise the registration of fishmongers.

The Market Committee has issued notices and launched an information campaign to inform fishmongers of the decision. Licences are being issued, and fishmongers are required to obtain them promptly to avoid legal action that may include heavy fines.

Large information posters have been fixed at various points while leaflets have been distributed in the market. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Shah Faisal arrested two individuals, Sarfaraz-ur-Rehman and Zia-ur-Rehman, for publishing fake price lists and handed them over to the police.
