Lawyers representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan have filed a petition in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after an investigation officer blocked their meeting with their client, despite a court order allowing the meeting.
The court has summoned the investigation officer for an explanation.
According to Express News, Imran Khan's lawyers, Faisal Chaudhry and Malik Faisal, submitted a new petition requesting permission to meet with their client.
The petition claimed that the court had instructed the investigation officer to facilitate the meeting, but the officer had refused.
The petition also stated that the Superintendent of Jail had informed them that Imran Khan was under police custody, not jail administration.
The lawyers argued that their constitutional and legal right to meet their client should be upheld, and requested the court to order the investigation officer to allow the meeting.
In response, the court issued a notice to the investigation officer from the New Town police station, directing him to appear at the court at 2:30 PM.
Faisal Chaudhry expressed concern over Imran Khan’s health, stating that the entire nation is worried about his well-being. He emphasized that physical remand does not equate to punishment, and constitutional provisions allow for meetings during the investigation process.
Recently, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore found Imran Khan, the founding chairman of the PTI party, guilty in cases related to the violence that took place on May 9, 2023, and has canceled his bails in eight related cases, Express News reported.
The written decision, issued by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill, detailed that the prosecution had strong evidence against Khan, including audio and visual recordings that confirmed his role in inciting violence.
The court stated that testimonies from witnesses in the Zaman Park conspiracy, where Khan allegedly directed his supporters, were on record.
According to the prosecution, Khan had orchestrated a plan to disrupt state machinery in the event of his arrest.
The court further noted that on May 11, violence against police officers, among other incidents, occurred following Imran's directives.
