Punjab Assembly lawmakers belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) demanded of the federal government on Friday to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in order to prevent further loss to the country's economy.
Through a resolution, submitted in the Punjab Assembly Secretariat by assembly member (MPA) Uzma Kardar, the ruling party lawmakers accused the opposition party of creating chaos and anarchy and launching arson attacks in the guise of political activities.
On the other hand, PTI's lawmakers, through a separate resolution, strongly condemned "the indiscriminate firing on PTI's peaceful protesters" on November 26 in D-Chowk of Islamabad as well as imposition of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) across Punjab.
In her resolution, Kardar stated that the house strongly condemned a specific agenda of a political party that used all energy to create law and order, anarchy, chaos in the garb of peaceful politics. She added that the PTI used to do the politics of aggression and torture.
Kardar stated that the protest on November 24 – led by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur – was a glaring example of the PTI's violence, as the protesters martyred police officials and Ranger's Jawans.
The K-P chief minister had nothing to do with problems of the people in his province, rather his focus was on attacking the federation by using all its resources, like heavy machinery, police officials equipped with weapons and tear gas equipment, she charged.
"This party repeated May 9 [2023 violence], violating the Constitution and followed its vested interests by inciting the public and its workers. This party flouted the Islamabad High Court's [IHC] decision wherein it had restrained this party from protesting in Red Zone [of the capital]," the resolution said.
The resolution also mentioned that because of the PTI protest march earlier this week, the country incurred losses to the tune of Rs190 billion on a daily basis and Rs140 billion loss to the gross domestic product (GDP) and the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) nosedived.
Either there was a visit by the Belarus delegation, or the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit conference or even the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase-II, "this gang of chaos mongers tarnished the image of Pakistan".
PTI's resolutions
PTI's Rana Shehbaz Ahmad and Mian Ijaz Shafi submitted their resolutions condemning "indiscriminate firing on PTI's peaceful workers" as a result of which several of them were killed. They also condemned imposition of Section 144 CrPC in Punjab.
The PTI resolution stated that all routes were closed, leaving no space even for ambulances to move. "Several patients died in ambulances and several females were deprived of their marriages as their "Baraats" [wedding processions] had to return," it added.
