Four accused who were awarded jail term by the Anti-Terrorism Court on Friday, fled after hearing the verdict from the court premises.
The police, however, caught two of them while two others managed to escape.
The Special Anti-Terrorism Court-II in Karachi Clifton pronounced the verdict in the case of obstructing the anti-encroachment operation and rioting during the drive. The prosecution successfully proved the charges against the four accused.
The court sentenced them to five-year imprisonment to each of them. Immediately after the verdict was announced, the two accused, Sherullah and Bin Yameen, ran away from the courtroom. The police failed to arrest them. The other two accused, Fahad Yousuf and Wali Mohammad were caught by the police. The court police detained three individuals who aided the escape of the accused.
According to the police, the accused hindered the anti-encroachment operation in Site Superhighway in 2022. They also attacked the anti-encroachment squad and pelted stones on them. A case was registered against them in the Super Highway police station.
