A Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has ordered a five to seven-day physical remand for 4,185 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers arrested during the November 24 protest.
The individuals were nominated in 23 cases registered in 16 police stations of the Rawalpindi division.
Led by Judge Amjad Ali Shah, the court directed authorities to complete investigations and produce the detainees on December 3.
Meanwhile, 749 accused activists have been sent to Adiala Jail on a 14-day judicial remand, with orders to reappear in court on December 12.
Among those arrested, 37 workers, including a woman named Zulekha Bibi, were discharged and released.
The crackdown spanned multiple districts, with cases registered in Bahatar, Hazro, Hasan Abdal, Fateh Jang, Ringo, and New Airport police stations in Attock. Additionally, Dhadiyal in Chakwal, along with Sadiqabad, Dhamial, Wah Cantt, New Town, Naseerabad, and Taxila police stations in Rawalpindi, recorded arrests.
A total of 5,971 PTI workers were apprehended and presented in court, with proceedings lasting from morning until midnight under tight security. Hasan Abdal police station in Attock reported the highest number of arrests, detaining 2,683 individuals.
Thirty PTI workers arrested by Attock police station were presented before the District and Sessions Judge Abdul Razzaq, who referred their case to the anti-terrorism court after granting a one-day physical remand.
Despite the large-scale arrests, no central PTI leaders, including Bushra Bibi, have been detained. Investigation teams indicated that decisions regarding the arrest of senior party figures would be made after completing the remand and interrogation process of those currently in custody.
The legal proceedings are expected to test the nerves of the arrested workers amid the intensified response to the protest.
