Higher temperatures, 47% less rainfall recorded in November: PMD

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan experienced significantly lower rainfall and higher-than-average temperatures during November 2024, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Rainfall levels across the country were 47% below the norm, while daytime and nighttime temperatures rose by an average of 2 degrees Celsius.

A new weather system is expected to impact the upper regions of Pakistan in the coming days.

The PMD forecasts rain in parts of Balochistan and snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan under this system.

Throughout November, Lahore and much of Punjab remained under the grip of smog, with some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also affected.

The reduced rainfall contributed to persistent smog, and Punjab authorities did not conduct experiments for artificial rainfall as previously suggested.

The PMD report underscores the changing climate's impact on weather patterns, while citizens continue to cope with the effects of smog and delayed winter rains.

Recently, PMD forecasted cold and dry weather on November 27 for most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

Smog is likely to prevail in isolated plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning/night.

According to the synoptic situation, continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country.

During the last 24 hours, the weather remained dry in most parts of the country, while cold weather in hilly areas. Smoggy/foggy conditions (in patches) prevailed over isolated plains areas of Punjab.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were Leh -07C, Skardu -05, Astore, Gupis -04, Gilgit and Kalam -02C.
