Euphoria’ Season 3 Cast: Returning Faces and Departures
Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of some beloved characters in Euphoria Season 3. HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed in a recent interview that the core cast will be back, including Zendaya as Rue Bennett and Hunter Schafer as Jules Vaugh. Also returning are Jacob Elordi (Nate Jacobs), Alexa Demie (Maddy Perez), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard), Dominic Fike (Elliott), and Maude Apatow (Lexi Howard).
One major return involves Eric Dane, who will reprise his role as Cal Jacobs in a redemption storyline, as he shared in a recent Variety interview.
However, not all faces will appear. Barbie Ferreira (Kat Hernandez) and Javon Walton (Ashtray) will not be returning. Tragically, Angus Cloud (Fez) passed away in July 2023, marking his final exit from the show.
Additionally, Storm Reid, who plays Rue’s younger sister Gia, confirmed that she will not be part of Season 3, stating, "Unfortunately, Gia's not returning for the third season... But I'm so, so indebted to the cast and crew of that show, to HBO. Euphoria's a really special thing, and I'm so glad that's a part of my legacy and that I was part of such a cultural phenomenon."
‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Release Date
Season 3’s release date has been confirmed for 2025, though delays due to strikes and Sam Levinson's work on The Idol have pushed production back. Initially, rumors spread that the series was canceled, but HBO quickly squashed those rumors, affirming, "Euphoria is going into production in 2025. Nothing has changed,” as stated in The Independent.
Despite these delays, fans can rest assured that the show will return, albeit with a wait. The team is working hard behind the scenes, preparing for the upcoming season.
‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Plot
Not much is known about the plot for Season 3, but a significant change will be the time jump. The show will move beyond high school and into the post-graduation world, which raises many questions about where the characters will be and how their lives have changed. Sam Levinson, the show’s creator, has promised that the story will evolve as the characters grow, and the season will have a more mature focus.
In a recent interview with Elle, Levinson teased that the upcoming season would have a "film noir" style. He also revealed that the story will explore Rue’s internal struggles with the world around her, as she grapples with what it means to have principles in a corrupt society.
Zendaya, who plays Rue, also expressed excitement for what’s to come. In a conversation with Extra, she revealed her hopes for Rue’s journey: "I would like to explore Rue's sobriety and that journey for her. We see her in the midst of it. It would be nice to see her closer to the other side."
Cast Hints
Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie, also shared her thoughts on the time jump. In an interview with Who What Wear in March 2023, Sweeney expressed excitement about the potential growth for her character, stating, “I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character.” She also teased that the upcoming season will be "very, very wild," leaving fans excited for what’s to come.
The Time Jump: A New Era for ‘Euphoria’
One of the biggest changes in Season 3 will be the time jump, which marks a departure from the high school setting that made the show so iconic. Casey Bloys, in his interview with Variety, explained that Sam Levinson no longer wants the show to be set in high school, signaling a shift toward more mature themes and settings. With the time jump, viewers can expect to see a whole new chapter in the lives of their favorite characters, now out of high school and facing the challenges of adulthood.
