Los Angeles rapper Big Sad 1900 responded to rumors of his death on Tuesday, November 26, after reports of his alleged passing circulated widely on social media.
The 1900 Records CEO quickly took to Instagram, posting a single cap emoji—a symbol widely used to call out falsehoods—dismissing the rumors and assuring fans that he was alive.
The rumors began earlier that day when Blanco Tarantino, an Instagram user who runs a hip-hop blog, posted an announcement claiming Big Sad, whose real name is Reggie Williams, had been shot and killed in the West Adams area of Los Angeles. The news quickly spread, with other social media pages, including 4 the Culture Ent, sharing similar reports about his death.
As the false reports went viral, fans and followers expressed concern, but Big Sad quickly put the rumors to rest. His post, which simply featured the cap emoji, was his way of letting everyone know he was still very much alive.
This incident follows a similar hoax the day before, when Instagram comedian MK Slatt aka Slimeball MK was also the subject of death rumors.
Big Sad 1900, known for his ties to the Playboy Gangster Crips, has had a challenging upbringing. Raised by his grandparents and the state, he spent time in juvenile detention and faced serious legal issues.
Despite these obstacles, Big Sad found success in the music industry, gaining recognition with his debut video 'No Hooks' in 2019. He has since collaborated with notable artists like Drakeo the Ruler and G Perico.
In addition to his music career, Big Sad founded 1900 Records, aiming to build a sustainable and impactful presence in hip-hop.
