'Canadian Karen is out of control': Fans react as Drake files second defamation lawsuit against UMG

 Drake’s ongoing feud with Universal Music Group (UMG) has taken another dramatic turn, as the rapper’s legal team has filed a second pre-action petition, this time in Texas, accusing the label of defamation. 

The complaint alleges that UMG amplified Kendrick Lamar’s diss track Not Like Us, which Drake claims contains false and damaging accusations about his personal life.

This new filing follows an earlier petition in New York, where Drake’s lawyers alleged that UMG conspired with Spotify to inflate the track’s popularity through unethical means. 

In Texas, the lawsuit goes further, accusing UMG of engaging in a “pay-to-play scheme” with iHeartRadio to promote Lamar’s track at the expense of Drake’s reputation.

Fans and critics alike have taken to social media platforms like Reddit and X to voice their opinions on the escalating legal battle, with many labeling Drake’s actions as over-the-top. 

One user mocked the rapper, saying, “My god this Canadian Karen is too much. You can’t sue people because you lost a rap battle. That’s not how that works.”

Another fan added, “This type of lawsuit makes a little more sense than the first one lol. But I don’t think Drake having to answer questions about his friendships with minors in court will be good for his reputation.”

The online backlash didn’t stop there, as fans began to ridicule the situation, with one netizen writing, “This is pretty insane but also hilarious. He must know he’s just giving his opps more material.” 

Another declared, “Drake’s downfall has truly started, and nothing makes me happier. This has never been done in rap EVER! A rap b*ef and you sue? The most Karen behavior I’ve ever seen.”

The legal petitions are intertwined with Drake’s long-running feud with Kendrick Lamar, which reignited following the release of Lamar’s album GNX. 

Drake’s lawyers argue that UMG deliberately amplified Not Like Us to harm his reputation while profiting financially. The complaint claims that UMG failed to block or edit defamatory content, despite allegedly knowing the accusations were false.

Legal experts have weighed in, noting that pre-action petitions like these are often used to gather evidence for lawsuits involving defamation, fraud, or racketeering. 

While some fans empathize with Drake’s concerns, others believe the lawsuits could damage his reputation more than the diss track itself.

Meanwhile, Drake continues to make headlines outside the courtroom. His recently released eighth studio album, For All The Dogs, featuring collaborations with J. Cole and 21 Savage, has been well-received. 

The rapper is also reportedly working on a joint album with PartyNextDoor, which has fans eagerly awaiting its release.
