The Sindh High Court (SHC) has stated in a notification that a constitutional bench, to be nominated by a committee established under Article 202A of the Constitution, will hear all constitutional petitions.
The SHC is currently grappling with a backlog of over 21,000 constitutional petitions, sources said. To streamline the process, regular benches have recused themselves from hearing such cases, deferring them to the newly formed constitutional bench.
In a recent development, a two-member SHC bench, headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, heard a petition related to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). The petitioner's lawyer argued that the matter fell under Article 199-2 of the Constitution, requesting an urgent hearing.
