Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Squabble Up’ music video references Ice-T, Nate Dogg, and Menace II Society

Kendrick Lamar dropped the music video for "Squabble Up" from his surprise album GNX released Friday morning.

Kendrick Lamar has released the music video for his track “Squabble Up,” which is featured on his surprise album "GNX" that dropped early Friday morning.

The video, directed by Calmatic, marks the first song from GNX to receive a visual. In the video, Lamar takes the spotlight while dancers come and go, with various references to his hometown of Compton and Los Angeles scattered throughout. The clip includes tributes like a nod to Nate Dogg, the film Menace II Society, the Compton Christmas Parade, and Ice-T’s Power album cover. At one point, Lamar is seen sitting and reading a book titled, "How to Be More Like Kendrick for Dummies," adding a humorous touch to the video.

"GNX" was released unexpectedly on Friday, serving as Lamar’s first full-length album since Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers in 2022. The album features a wide array of guest appearances, including artists such as SZA, Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, Mustard, Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, Lefty Gunplay, Dody6, and many more.

This new album follows a year of success for Lamar, highlighted by the release of multiple singles in the spring and an intense rivalry with Drake. One of those tracks, “Not Like Us,” became a massive hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and being featured at sporting events, graduations, and even at Kamala Harris’ campaign rallies.

Looking ahead, Lamar is set to perform at next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, marking another major milestone in his career. He previously took part in the 2022 Halftime performance alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, and Mary J. Blige.
