ISLAMABAD:

Renowned child rights activist Syed Miqdad Mehdi has underscored the urgent need for greater awareness and the implementation of child-related laws to safeguard vulnerable children in Pakistan.

Speaking on World Children's Rights Day, Mehdi called for collective efforts to create a safe and supportive environment for children to thrive.

Highlighting the vital role of parents, Mehdi urged them to adopt better parenting practices, providing guidance, support, and a nurturing environment to help their children reach their full potential.

He emphasized that parents play a pivotal role in shaping their children's futures and fostering their ability to thrive.

Discussing the significance of World Children's Rights Day, Mehdi noted that it is both a celebration of progress and a platform to address ongoing challenges.

"Pakistan views children as a national treasure, committed to ensuring their holistic development through access to education, healthcare, and protection," he said.

"Everyone, including parents and teachers, leaders and children themselves have a role to play in making the day meaningful and promoting the welfare of children in their societies and communities," he said and also emphasised the crucial importance of education for Pakistan's children, highlighting the alarming fact that around 20 million children in the country are currently out of school and stressing the need for urgent action to address this issue.

Mehdi also drew attention to the numerous challenges faced by children in Pakistan, including stunting, malnutrition, limited access to quality education and child labour, emphasising the urgent need for effective implementation of laws and policies to protect their rights and ensure their well-being.

He accentuated the inherent potential of every child. He emphasised that education, creativity and community support can collectively unleash a transformative power, propelling children towards a future filled with hope, promise and limitless possibilities.
