The murder of 6-year-old pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey in December 1996 remains unsolved, but her family continues to seek justice. Netflix’s upcoming docuseries, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, premiering on Nov. 25, has reignited public interest in the case. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, JonBenét’s father, John Ramsey, criticized the Boulder Police Department for delaying advanced DNA testing on evidence found at the crime scene, including the garrote used in her strangulation.

JonBenét’s parents, John and the late Patsy Ramsey, and her siblings, Burke and John Andrew Ramsey, were initially scrutinized but later cleared of involvement after DNA evidence linked an unknown male to the crime. Despite this, the case remains open. “If it stays in the hands of the Boulder Police, it will not be solved,” John Ramsey stated, urging authorities to engage cutting-edge DNA technology.

As the anniversary of JonBenét’s murder approaches, her family remains hopeful that modern forensic advancements could finally identify her killer. The Netflix docuseries explores the enduring mystery and sheds light on the challenges of resolving one of America’s most infamous cold cases.
