'Universities key to progress of S Punjab'

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has said the role of local universities is of key importance in the social and economic development of South Punjab.

Universities should ensure high standards in teaching and research and produce the best human resources as well as work for the development and prosperity of the local community,

he said.

The Punjab governor expressed these views during a meeting with the vice chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur and MNS University of Engineering and Technology Multan, Professor Dr Muhammad Kamran, at the Governor House on Sunday.

The governor said universities should take steps for the welfare of students along with economic management. On this occasion, the vice chancellor briefed the chancellor on administrative and financial matters in both the universities and informed him about the ongoing curricular and co-curricular activities at the campuses.

He said the fall semester activities are going on in full swing in both the universities. Two international conferences were successfully held at Islamia University of Bahawalpur recently in which eminent national and foreign delegates participated.

The governor appreciated the good performance of Islamia University in the quality ranking and expressed hope that the process of improving administrative and financial matters of the university would continue in the right direction.
