Fighter pilot Marium Mukhtar being remembered on 9th death anniversary

Today marks the 9th death anniversary of Marium Mukhtiar, Pakistan's first female fighter pilot to die in the line of duty. Her sacrifice on November 24, 2015, continues to serve as a symbol of dedication to the nation.

Marium Mukhtiar was born on May 18, 1992, in Karachi. She demonstrated academic and athletic ability from an early age, particularly as a football player for Balochistan United in the National Women's Football Championship. After completing her education at Army Public School and College, she joined the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in 2011.

In 2014, Marium graduated as part of the 132nd GD (General Duty) Pilot Course, becoming one of the few women to achieve this milestone. On November 24, 2015, while on a routine training flight with her instructor, Saqib Abbasi, their jet developed a technical fault.

Despite the emergency, Marium attempted to steer the aircraft away from populated areas. Both pilots ejected, but Marium did not survive the crash near Kundian, Mianwali.

In recognition of her actions, the Government of Pakistan posthumously awarded Marium the Tamgha-e-Basalat on March 23, 2016. Her legacy continues to inspire women to pursue careers in the military.
