2024 World Internet Conference concludes
The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit successfully concluded on Friday in Wuzhen, east China's Zhejiang Province, with participation from over 130 countries and regions through both online and in-person platforms.
With the theme "Embracing a People-Centred and AI-for-Good Digital Future – Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace," the summit highlighted artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on addressing concerns related to AI development and governance. It highlighted the use of AI and digital technologies to benefit humanity, aiming to shape a better and more inclusive digital future for all, as reported by CGTN.
This year's summit introduced several key initiatives alongside its signature events, such as the Light of Internet Expo and demonstrations of practical cases of "Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace." The newly established WIC Distinguished Contribution Award was launched to honour individuals and enterprises that have made exceptional contributions to the global internet sector. Seven individuals and 14 enterprises were recognised for their achievements during the award ceremony held at the summit's opening.
The summit also established the WIC Specialised Committee on Artificial Intelligence, aimed at creating an international platform for cooperation and exchange in the rapidly evolving AI sector. Another notable initiative was the launch of the WIC Think Tank Cooperation Programme, initiated by 60 think tanks from WIC member organisations and other high-level international institutions. This programme seeks to provide a long-term platform for academic exchange and intellectual dialogue in the global internet field.
In addition, the formation of the WIC Digital Academy marked a significant step in fostering education and capacity building in the digital sphere, with the academy set to host the WIC Global Elite Training programme.
