An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Thursday remanded former prime minister Imran Khan in police custody for five days in a rioting case. The case emerged following the Islamabad High Court's decision on Wednesday to grant him bail in the second Toshakhana case.
ATC Judge Syed Amjad Ali Shah issued this order while hearing the case with regard to violation of Section 144 by PTI workers on September 28 on the alleged instigation of the party founder.
The ATC conducted its proceedings in a courtroom inside Adiala Jail. Imran who has been detained at the famous prison of Rawalpindi for the past one year also appeared in the courtroom.
PTI's lawyer, Salman Safdar, argued that the case against the PTI founder is purely political victimization.
"The accused is only charged with incitement, but how can someone who is already in jail incite others? All the cases against the PTI founder have been filed by the police themselves.
"During the September 28 protests, the incidents were led by people on-site. Where is Imran Khan in this? There was no murder or injury in this case; the only claim is that a police officer's shirt was torn. Compared to other cases, this is the weakest and should be discharged outright."
